Florida Grapples with Social Media Legal Issues

Florida’s Attorney General has interpreted language in Florida’s Public Records Act as possibly making content on social media pages public records subject to the state’s retention policies. 

 The AG’s opinion and the city attorney’s analysis of it appear in the pod at right.

The ruling resulted in a caution posted on the city’s official (there are a number of unofficial ones) Facebook page and a variety of disclosures on the city’s website relating to Facebook.
