Rod Gould took the lead as city manager at the City of Santa Monica in January 2010 and retired from his service at the end of 2014. He previously served as city manager in the cities of Monrovia, San Rafael and Poway, California.
Rod is a past president of the League of California Cities’ City Managers Department and served on the League’s Board of Directors from 2007-2009. The department recently honored Rod with its prestigious Wes McClure Manager of Distinction Award.
The Institute board and staff appreciate Rod’s enthusiasm for the Institute’s mission, vision and values. Rod has been a consistent champion of the Institute’s work in promoting good government at the local level with practical, impartial and easy-to-use materials.
Rod is West Coast Vice President of the International City and County Management Association (ICMA). In this capacity, he represents western city managers on ICMA’s board of directors.
Rod’s resume includes a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Yale University and master’s degrees in both Public Administration and Education from Harvard University.
