The Department of Health Care Policy and Financing administers the Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) programs, as well as a variety of other programs for Colorado’s low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Colorado: Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+)

The Department of Health Care Policy and Financing administers the Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) programs, as well as a variety of other programs for Colorado’s low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Who Is Eligible?

A summary of eligibility requirements appears below. Be sure to check with the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to verify eligibility. Eligible individuals include:

  • Children age 18 and younger and pregnant women age 19 and older;
  • Applicants with household income under 200 percent of the federal poverty level ($44,100 annually for a family of four in 2009 in Colorado);
  • Colorado residents;
  • Permanent legal residents who have had an Alien Registration number for at least five years, or are a refugee or an asylee;
  • Applicants not eligible for Medicaid; and
  • Applicants who do not have other health insurance.

Application Assistance

  • Applicants can call CHP+ Customer Service at 1(800) 359-1991 to have an application sent by mail. CHP+ Customer Service is available Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Applicants can also visit the office in person. Visit here for more information.

This resource provides information about affordable health insurance options for children of eligible families in Colorado. It is part of the Institute for Local Government’s Healthy Communities – Insuring Kids Health Online Resource Center project.
