Promoting Climate Action and Resilience

ILG’s Sustainability pillar works to support local governments on reducing GHG emissions and increasing resilience. In Western City, ILG interviews the cities of Monterey, Sonoma, and Arcata to highlight their work to reduce GHG emissions and meet the state’s requirement for carbon neutrality by 2045. These small cities share best practices for developing partnerships, seeking out creative solutions, and addressing economic development through sustainability work.

Empowering Youth Through Civic Education

ILG’s Workforce and Civic Education pillar focuses on supporting local governments in their public sector career pathway development. In 2022, ILG launched the Summer Jobs and Ambassadors in Motion (Summer JAM)  program that combined local government civics education curriculum with public sector career pathways exploration. Students participated in the program via in-person and virtual sessions where they learned they learned different forms and functions of local government, how to be civically engaged in their communities, and how to pursue a public sector career.

Facilitating Good Governance Workshops

ILG’s Leadership & Governance pillar promotes good governance practices for all public agencies. ILG offers customized virtual and in-person workshops for local government jurisdictions statewide. These sessions include intensive training for government bodies looking to expand their leadership skills. The offerings are specifically tailored for local county boards of supervisors, city councils and agencies as well as their staff and cover a wide range of topics including the following.
