The Beacon Program features two types of awards:
The Beacon Award recognizes an agency’s holistic approach to addressing climate change. Participating agencies are required to complete each of following six elements to win a Beacon Award:
The first Beacon Award was presented to the City of San Rafael in 2013.
Energy savings are the result of energy efficiency retrofits undertaken at agency facilities.
Greenhouse gas reductions are demonstrated by comparing a baseline greenhouse gas inventory to an updated inventory.
Participating agencies are surveyed and asked to provide a description of completed or ongoing activities undertaken in the ten areas of the Institute’s Sustainability Best Practice Framework.
The Beacon Award is sponsored by the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative, which offers no-cost resources to support the energy and climate initiatives of California local governments. Click here to learn more.
