PECG Develops Briefing Papers for Youth Commissions
The Public Engagement and Collaborative Governance (PECG) program is creating a series of “Briefing Papers” for Youth Commissions and Youth Advisory Councils. These concise two-page documents will provide teens with background information about a timely topic and concrete ideas for how youth commissions and advisory councils can take action to address these issues in their communities.
The first briefing paper is entitled, “Health Care Coverage for Children and Youth in your Community.” This paper provides information about no and low cost health care available for young people in California, and gives information on how youth commissioners can help eligible families in their communities take advantage of these programs.
The second briefing paper is entitled, "Addressing Climate Change: Ideas for Youth Commissions." This paper provides background information, ideas for specific actions that youth commission or council members might take to address climate change, and a number of online and other resources where staff and youth can learn more about the issue.
The third briefing paper is entitled, "Youth Engagement and Local Planning: Ideas for Youth Commissions." This paper provides a brief overview of the planning process, examples of youth engaged in local policy making, and resources to learn more about local community planning and ways to engage youth.
Ideas for Future Briefing Papers
The next briefing paper will address youth pursuing careers in local government.
