Santa Cruz Police Department Launches Consumer-Focused Phone App
Western City, October 2011

The Santa Cruz Police Department has developed a consumer-focused law-enforcement IPhone application that provides access to the Police Department’s scanner feed, online crime maps, videos, photos and a departmental blog. In addition, consumers can submit crime tips from their mobile phone and view alerts. The City of Santa Cruz won the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence in Public Safety for this program.

The National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families (YEF) helps municipal leaders take action on behalf of the children and families in their communities. Since 2007, the Institute has co-convened the California Cities Gang Prevention Network, a 13-city initiative to identify effective strategies for preventing gang violence and victimization.
