Success in Public Service

Image of Success in Public ServiceSuccess in Public Service: What You Need to Know Before You Are Appointed or Elected

This pamphlet helps those interested in public office understand the ethics laws that apply to public servants.

This pamphlet answers three questions:

  1. What are the basic principles of public service ethics laws?
  2. How can I determine the impact of these laws on me?
  3. Where can I get additional help and support if I still have questions?

The goal is to provide a general overview of ethics laws that apply to public service, as well as practical tips on how to assess how these laws might affect a given person. The emphasis is on what someone needs to know before they are elected or appointed, so they can make an informed decision whether public service is right for them at this time.

The Institute is grateful to the law firm Best Best & Krieger LLP for sponsoring this publication.
