Getting Involved in Transportation Planning: An Overview for Public Health Advocates
ChangeLab Solutions & Transform, 2011

Post

This report makes the important link between transportation planning and health. It also describes the key players and processes of local and regional planning and the steps you can take to advocate for healthier transportation policies.

In this country, 92% of all trips are made by cars and the average person spends 443 hours in a car a year. These findings are directly related to rising obesity rates and other chronic illnesses.

Transportation planning decisions can improve health by creating more opportunities for biking and walking, improving access to food shopping and other daily needs, and creating vibrant neighborhoods that are destinations, not just places to drive by in the car.
