Compassion

Post

The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.

–Thomas Jefferson

Ethical dilemmas relating to compassion can occur often in the policymaking context.  A public official can feel compassion for those who are less fortunate and depend on government programs for essential services.  This can create painful choices when there are limited public resources available to fund such services.
