Tip Sheets on Land Use Decisions: Public Hearing One-Pagers
Land use planning decisions involve technical terminology that many are unfamiliar with. The Institute has developed a series of plain-language descriptions of common land use decisions.
These descriptions can be used a number of ways:
- They can be attached to hard copy or electronic notices of public meetings;
- They can be made available as handouts at the planning counter; and
- They can be included as links in an agency website.
These resources are offered in both English and Spanish.
We would like to thank Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP whose financial support made this Institute project possible.Translation of these materials has been supported by ZeroDivide and the James Irvine Foundation.
- PDF Versions that can be used as is (including as links in an agency website)
- A Word version (DOC) that local agencies can customize for their own needs.

The Institute also offers a general tip sheet on participating in the decision-making process that can go on the back of each one-pager. Note that each of the "designed" versions of the one-pagers cross- reference this tip sheet as being on the back.
