This article explains what ethics commissions can and can't do to help a local agency promote public service ethics.  It also briefly examines the role of ethics committees, ethics task forces and ethics hotlines.

Terrific Resource

During a recent City of Sacramento Charter Review Committee meeting, the City of Austin TX Integrity Officer John Steiner noted how helpful this document would be to the Committee as they begin to comtemplate recommendations for an ethics program/commission structure. Steiner, who is a former Executive Director of the Texas Ethics Commission, indicated he wished he had written something just like it. Compliments to the authors!
