Regional Approaches to Climate Action

The Bay Area's regional agencies are aligning efforts to coordinate climate action, implement SB 375, and engage local governments.

Regional Agencies:

Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD)

The Air District is responsible for regulating air quality in the nine counties and 101 cities of the San Francisco Bay Area. Committed to addressing climate change, the District is proud to be hosting the Bay Area Climate Portal and is also implementing numerous initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG)

ABAG is supporting the efforts of Bay Area towns, cities, counties and residents to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by sponsoring programs such as Energy Watch and working with local governments to translate State policy into local action.

Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC)

As the regional agency tasked with protecting and enhancing the San Francisco Bay, BCDC has taken the lead role in assessing the Bay area’s vulnerability to sea level rise. BCDC is currently developing tools to assist local governments in adapting to the expected impacts of climate change.

Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)

MTC is the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. With 40% of Bay Area emissions resulting from transportation, the Commission has recognized its role in addressing climate change and established a $400 million climate action campaign.
