Key Resources for Adapting to Climate Change
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions can help avoid some of the most potentially catastrophic effects of climate change. But some changes are already underway, and others may be unavoidable. Here are some key resources to help understand, and prepare for, these changes in California's climate.
- California Climate Adaptation Strategy
This multi-sector strategy is designed to help guide California's efforts in adapting to climate change impacts. The 2009 California Climate Adaptation Strategy was released in December 2009 and summarizes the best known science on climate change impacts in seven specific sectors and provides recommendations on how to manage against those threats. - Living With a Rising Bay - BCDC Report
This report by the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) reflects the current state of knowledge regarding the potential impacts of climate change on the region. The report identifies vulnerabilities in the Bay Area’s economic and environmental systems, as well as the potential impacts of climate change on public health and safety. - Cal-Adapt
Cal-adapt is a web-based climate adaptation planning tool. Cal-adapt allows the user to identify potential climate change risks in specific geographic areas throughout the state. Users can either query by location, or click on an interactive map to explore what climate impacts are projected to occur in their area of interest.
The Adapting to Climate Change section of this Web site has other resources that can help, along with examples from a variety of cities and counties throughout California.
