Local agencies are leaders in promoting sustainability in their
community. Highlighting local innovation and accomplishments
helps local sustainability leaders share best practices with
other communities.
The Institute for Local Government invites California cities and
counties to participate in the sustainability and climate change
recognition program, the Beacon Award: Local Leadership Toward
Solving Climate Change.
Local officials can learn about participating in the statewide sustainability and climate change recognition program, The Beacon Award: Local Leadership toward Solving Climate Change, by participating in two free webinars offered by the Institute for Local Government in conjunction with the Sustainable Communities Learning Network.
As cities and counties participating in the Beacon Award program
work to complete the criteria necessary to achieve a Silver, Gold
or Platinum Beacon Award, we are providing the opportunity to
recognize interim accomplishments — including reductions in
greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in municipal
operations as well as completed activities in ILG’s Climate
Action & Sustainability Best Practice Areas.
