Understanding the Basics of Local Agency Decision-Making

Do you sometimes wish there were an easy way to explain how decision-making occurs at the local level? Such nuts and bolts are the subject of Understanding the Basics of Local Agency Decision-Making. The publication was produced with generous support in 2008 from the Liebert Cassidy Whitmore law firm.

This guide provides a starting place for those who want to understand more about local government.

It is also available in Spanish.

This guide is a resource in the Institute's Local Government 101 program. Through this effort, the Institute provides information about the key aspects of local agency structures and processes for newly-elected officials, newly-hired staff, the media, citizens academies, community groups and others.

The publication joins the popular Basics of County and City Revenues  publication in the Institute's offerings to local officials and other community leaders. In the works are "basics" guides for land use planning and public service ethics.
