The Land of Risk/Land of Opportunity: Cumulative Environmental Vulnerabilities in San Joaquin Valley report highlights the places and populations in the San Joaquin Valley that are challenged by high levels of environmental hazards and high levels of social vulnerability that can lead to poor health conditions. It is intended to assist policy makers and public agency leaders to better prioritize actions to protect the health of the region’s residents and to build healthy communities.

The report was published in Nov. 2011 by the UC Davis Center for Regional Change.

Involving the Public in Planning Healthy Communities - 2011 League Planners Institute

Many communities are trying to enhance resident health through improvements in the built environment. Informing and engaging the broader community can increase the likelihood for the success of these efforts.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) will offer an 8-part Webinar series intended to help communities address pedestrian safety issues through design and engineering solutions. Modeled after the FHWA's/PBIC's in-person training course "Designing for Pedestrian Safety," the free Webinars will cover topics ranging from sidewalk design to road diets.
