Following the presentation of San Rafael’s Beacon Award, the Beacon Program hosted a Spotlight Awards presentation and knowledge sharing session Friday, September 20 2013 at the League of California Cities Annual Conference.

Rolling Hills Estates Council Member and Air Resources Board Member Judy Mitchell presided over the session. More than thirty cities received Spotlight Awards for their efforts to achieve measurable greenhouse gas reductions, energy savings and implement sustainability best practices. Award winners were recognized as a group with some participants opting for additional individual agency pictures. Check out the slideshow of the 2013 Spotlight Award Winners presentation below.

Session attendees then broke out into small groups for the knowledge sharing component of the session. Robust discussion was sparked were by the discussion question:

“As a local leader, how do you work with colleagues, staff, neighboring agencies and residents to advance sustainability in your community? What opportunities do you see? What challenges have you/your agency encountered?”

Originally scheduled for 20 minutes, this component of the workshop was extended for an additional 25 minutes at the request of participants. Attendees commented that they found it very useful to have the opportunity to learn, share and connect with colleagues from around the state. A summary of the group discussions is available to download at the right.
